I recall reading somewhere that serana will only be a follower if you choose to side with the vampires in dawnguard. As a follower her main location during gameplay depends on which faction you ally yourself with if siding with the dawnguard she can be found at fort dawnguard. Serana will still be available as a follower. Dawnguard has more benefits for my character but i was wondering if serana stays as a follower at the end of the dawnguard story.

Ask serana to turn you into a vampire lord. If siding with the volkihar vampires she can be found at volkihar keep. Did you all know that if you havnt taken her back to her father she will never not follow you. These followers can fight by your side.

Hi thanks for taking the time to answer. Meaning if you do quest from say the companions where you help one of them do a quest serana will follow you anyway and fight with you. I guess she doent trust you enough yet to not follow. If you side with the dawnguard she will come to fort dawnguard while you are away and tell you of the prophecy.

Will serana be a follower if i side with the dawnguard. After being encountered she can be recruited as a follower unlocking a multitude of interactions. Some can also carry your equipment and perform other tasks. She is known as one of the daughters of coldharbour and because of this she is central to the main questline in dawnguard.
